Airports in Imphal & Agartala among 25 others leased out

Tripura: Imphal and Agartala are among the 25 airports which have been leased out by 2025.
The Airport Authority of India has leased out airports under the Public Private Partnership for operation, management and long-term development. Sources said leasing out of airports is meant to attend to the public interest and ensure better management by utilising private sector efficiency and investment.


The Minister of State, Civil Aviation, VK Singh, informed the Rajya Sabha that airports have emerged as a nucleus of economic activities. It has a multiplier effect on the economy of the state.
He added that the revenue received by the Airport Authority of India from leased airports is utilised in the development of airport infrastructure across the country.
The airports leased as per the National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP) are Bhubaneshwar, Varanasi, Amritsar, Trichy, Indore, Raipur, Calicut, Coimbatore, Nagpur, Patna, Madurai, Surat, Ranchi, Jodhpur, Chennai, Vijaywada, Vadodara, Bhopal, Tirupati, Hubli, Imphal, Udaipur, Dehradun and Rajahmundry.
