Guwahati: The Ministry of Education has announced the inclusion of the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking of universities, starting from 2023.
This new addition aims to foster entrepreneurial activities and encourage innovation within universities, ultimately influencing their rankings in the NIRF. As a result, the duration of training programs will be extended to facilitate these endeavors.

During the launch of the Innovation, Design, and Entrepreneurship Boot Camp program for Innovators, the Director (Officiating) of IIT Guwahati shared this information with the Business Northeast.

The NIRF ranking system, which was approved by the Ministry of Human Resource Development in 2015, provides a methodology for evaluating and ranking educational institutions nationwide.

The framework was developed based on the recommendations of a Core Committee established by the MHRD, which identified key parameters for ranking universities and institutions.

The parameters encompass several aspects, including "Teaching, Learning, and Resources," "Research and Professional Practices," "Graduation Outcomes," "Outreach and Inclusivity," and "Perception."

In the latest rankings released in 2023, the top 10 universities featured Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, Jamia Milia Islamia in New Delhi, Jadavpur University in Kolkata, Banaras Hindu University, Manipal Academy of Higher Education in Manipal, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Vellore Institute of Technology in Vellore, Aligarh Muslim University in Aligarh, and University of Hyderabad in Hyderabad.
Unfortunately, prominent universities in Assam, such as Gauhati University and Tezpur University, did not secure positions among the top 50 universities in the country.
