Majuli: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched project worth Rs 900 crore in the Majuli district-the largest river island in the world.

Mr Sarma laid the foundation stone for a road's improvement from Balichapori in Majuli to Bongalmara in Lakhimpur, which included constructing two bridges across the rivers Luit and Subansiri.

Furthermore, Mr. Sarma laid the foundation for a central midday meal kitchen, the refurbishment of the Government Industrial Training Institute in Bangaon, and the main campus of the Rs 51 crore Majuli Cultural University.

In order to address the continuous flooding issue of the area, he also laid the foundation stone for the $29 billion building of a "ring bund" on the banks of the Brahmaputra from Jabarchuk to Haldhibari.

Mr. Sarma said that Majuli, which is known as a place rich in spirituality, history, and culture, is going through a rapid period of change that will make it difficult for the local community to preserve its unique identity.

He asserted that the government is attempting to harness technology to enable people to access a range of services via contactless techniques.

In addition, he urged farmers to sell their paddy at the district's recently opened paddy procurement facility for the MSP of Rs 2,040.

At government procurement locations the year before, farmers in Majuli sold 1,360 MT of paddy.
