Guwahati: Assam’s Moonjir Alam, 29, has made it to the list of top 15 self-made entrepreneurs in the country.
The competition was organised by Rising Star Digital Media in Delhi in November.

Moonjir is currently working in the education sector. Hailing from a small town of Assam, Moonjir completed his studies from IBS Mumbai. He started his video marketing agency in Mumbai called Hooked Media along with his college friend Balraj Sandhu. Through Hooked Media they have worked with some of the biggest brands such as Miss India, Times of India, Diageo, Chopard to name a few.

He informed Business Northeast that for starting his school he took a loan of Rs. 2 crore. He had spent Rs. 40 lakh from his pocket.

Moonjir credited his family by recalling their support during lockdown. He said “as in the lockdown I came back to home from Mumbai where I was running my video marketing agency, family was supportive. For the school land etc was supported by family to start with.

He expressed his gratitude for his father Dr. Shamsul Alam who helped him to run his business.

During lockdown when he came to his hometown he felt the need of a quality senior secondary school along with NEET and JEE coaching in lower Assam. He along with his father Dr. Shamsul Alam started working on this and within 2 years he built one of the most sought after fully residential schools of Assam "Howly National Science Academy" at Howly, Barpeta. He already has more than 250 students from different parts of Assam studying in his academy, making it the fastest growing school of Assam.

Moonjir says while building the team and school his only vision was to build a school where he would love to study if he were a science student.

Using his brand marketing knowledge and focusing on quality service he was able to build a school which otherwise would have taken years.

However, the journey was not free from challenges. He recalls the negative marketing some of the competitors did. Again, as his organisation started in the middle of the lockdown the people nearby were grilled with lot of uncertainties as it was hard for them trust their new brand.

Currently Moonjir along with running the institution in Lower Assam and the video marketing agency in Mumbai, provides consultation to other schools owners, edtech founders or aspiring Entrepreneurs on growing their business with brand marketing.

From each student he is earning Rs 1.5 lakhs. It may be mentioned that they have 253 students.
