Guwahati: The Assam government has reached agreements for industrial investment worth Rs 11,000 crore in the state, minister of industries and commerce Bimal Bora said at a public function on Thursday.
“Recently, the government has made efforts to make 200,000 youths self-reliant under the Chief Minister's Atmanirbhar Assam scheme," Bora said, unveiling a documentary called ‘Agragamini’ highlighting the success stories of women entrepreneurs.
Earlier this year, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that his government is launching a new initiative to provide financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to youth for their self-employment. The registration for the 'Mukhya Mantri Atmanirbhar Asom' took place on September 23 and 24.
The minister cited the examples of two women entrepreneurs who have become self-reliant by making biscuits and keeping bees at home.
“Self-reliant Assam and self-reliant India will be possible only if our women are self-reliant,” Bora noted, promoting the film, which documented the lives of 10 women entrepreneurs from Assam. “This documentary will also inspire other women to become self-reliant," he added.
According to Bora, the Chief Minister has paid “special attention” to the development of the industrial sector “to make Assam among the top five states in the country."
The event was organised by Radio Gupshup in collaboration with the Assam Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation, Assam Start-Ups, and ITC.
It was also attended by Assam Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation Managing Director Chinmoy Prakash Phookan, who spoke about the support provided by the government to entrepreneurs in the state.
