Guwahati: Marking a significant stride towards enhancing economic ties and realizing the full potential of the "Act East Policy," Assam has embarked on a transformative trade partnership with Singapore, facilitating a direct agro-export route.
A mixture of Assam's distinctive flavors made its way to Singapore recently, as an air cargo shipment carried locally grown pineapples, Kaji lemons, plums, jackfruits, and starfruits from Guwahati to Singapore.
The High Commissioner of Singapore, HC Wong, lauded this development by announcing, "I am delighted to unveil the inaugural air cargo delivery of fruits from Assam to Singapore. This pioneering effort, led by Hon'ble Himanta Biswa Sarma, establishes a direct conduit for agro-exports from the Northeast to Singapore."
This landmark achievement not only forges a direct avenue for agricultural exports but also channels the rich diversity of Assam's produce to international markets, showcasing the region's unique offerings.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his enthusiasm on Twitter, affirming that this groundbreaking initiative will establish an unmediated agro-export channel from the Northeast to Singapore. Beyond its economic implications, the air cargo route signifies a fresh chapter in trade relations between these two regions, elevating Assam's agricultural potential and underscoring its pivotal role in shaping bilateral trade ties.

It's noteworthy that Surbana Jurong, a Singapore government-owned infrastructure consultancy firm, recently inaugurated its office in Guwahati, reinforcing Assam's economic bonds with Singapore and adding another layer of collaboration.
The resonance of this trade alliance transcends mere exchange of commodities; it signifies a harmonious interchange of ideas, cultures, and shared aspirations.
Echoing this sentiment, Singapore's High Commissioner, Simon Wong, expressed his satisfaction with Surbana Jurong's expansion into Assam, aligning it with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's proactive Act East Policy. Wong emphasized his belief in the untapped potential of the North East, envisioning Assam as a conduit for fortified relations between India and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). As the cargo laden with Assam's bounty embarks on its journey to Singapore, Assam takes center stage in India's Act East Policy, emerging as a pivotal and proactive player in shaping the trade landscape between India and ASEAN.
