Guwahati: The Peindia mobile application-based cab service in Guwahati is in the process of changing its app, leaving hundreds of four-wheeler drivers and two-wheeler riders, who were associated with it, stranded for the past 20 days.

As the new application is being transformed, unable to take bookings, many drivers have shifted back to the other cab services like Ola and Uber while several others are reportedly left without earning.

Peindia started operating in Guwahati in September 2021. But after just 10 months of offering the service, several anomalies were reported, including the map that showed improper locations.

Director of Peindia, Ravi Choudhury told Business Northeast, “We have changed the previous map to Google map now and have also changed the application altogether. Since we had to remove the previous app from the Play Store and place a new one, it is taking time. The entire procedure had to be replaced.”

With the Peindia App not functioning for the past 20 days, the associated drivers have returned to the other mobile application-based taxi services—Uber and Ola.

Complaining about the issue, the Ola and Uber drivers alleged, “When Peindia was launched, about 5000 drivers left the other services and joined it." Now that the application is not functioning, they have returned to our platforms. With too many additional taxis available, the average daily bookings of each regular driver have decreased. "Peindia is causing all the confusion and chaos.

Ravi Choudhury, however, stated that the new App has been restored in the Play Store on May 29. “We started the re-registration process for drivers from May 25. In the last 5 days around 3,400 drivers and 1,800 riders have again registered with us. Since our App was non-functional in the last 20 days we informed the drivers that they can work with the other App based services during this period.

As per Choudhury, about 8,000 drivers and two-wheeler riders, and more than 3 lakh customers had registered themselves with Peindia on the old App. “Our per day average was 15,000 to 25,000 requested rides, of which 8,000 to 10,000 could be completed per day.”

“We have not made any profit till now. Our services are dedicated to satisfying the customer and the associated drivers. While other platforms, like Ola and Uber, take about 40-45 percent of each fare as commission, we are taking just 5 percent. Also, our fares are much lower compared to the rest at any time of the day.”
