Delhi bans alcohol sale for three days

Guwahati: Delhi will observe dry days from Friday to Sunday during which the sale of alcohol will be prohibited due to the civic elections, the city excise department has announced.

The Excise Department has declared a dry day in Delhi from December 2 through December 4 and once again on December 7 in advance of the election of 250 wards for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi on December 7 Sunday.

In accordance with the terms of Rule 52 of the Delhi Excise Rules, 2010, this was disclosed in a notification issued by Delhi Commissioner (Excise) Krishna Mohan Uppu on Wednesday.

The notification added that "December 7, 2022 (Wednesday), the date of the vote-counting, will also be observed as a dry day from 00:00 Hours to 24:00 Hours." The three-day prohibition will take effect from the time the campaigning ends until the completion of voting.

According to the announcement, all bars, liquor stores, and retail establishments will be closed on these days.

The Excise Department and Delhi Police would monitor the city to make sure that there is no unauthorised transit or storage of alcohol, it was said.
