Eights existing Govt. fishing farms to be upgraded

Kohima: Initiating from the year 2019- 20, the state’s Department of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources has taken up the upgradation of eight existing government fish farms in a phased manner at a total project cost of Rs 959.40 lakh namely: Thizama Fish Farm at Kohima, Brooders’ Fish Farm at Dimapur, Jorpukhuri Fish Farm at Dimapur, Tsumang Demonstration Fish Farm at Wokha, Nathanglu Fish Farm at Mokokchung, Thimlak Fish Farm at Tuensang, Tizit Fish Farm at Mon and Demonstration Fish Farm New Peren Hq.

This was stated in the Annual Administrative Report 2021-22 of the Fisheries & Aquatic Resources department tabled at the recently concluded 11th session of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) here.

During 2021-22, an amount of Rs. 250.00 lakhs has been earmarked as Phase -3 to upgrade Government Farms at Dimapur, Wokha, Mokokchung, Tuensang, and Mon. 
 

Foreseeing the immense potential for the development of fisheries and for providing focused attention to the sector, the Government of India in May 2020 approved the “Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) as a new scheme.

The report stated that from 2021-to 22, the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying has released an amount of Rs. 1514.13 lakhs to construct a new freshwater finfish hatchery, backyard ornamental fish rearing unit, new rearing ponds, grow-out ponds, to provide input support for freshwater aquaculture including composite fish culture and integrated fish farming and to stock fingerlings in the reservoir.
