Five hydel projects to come up soon in Mizoram

Aizawl: Mizoram government will set up five hydroelectric power plants to generate 800 MW. The detailed project reports (DPRS) has been prepared by the government for its successful implementation, according to Power and Electricity Department officials.

DPRS is also been prepared for the Kolodyne -II HEP (460 MM), Tuival HEP (210 MM), Bairabi Dam Project (80 MW), Tuirini HEP (24 Mw), and Tuivawl HEP, informed department officials.

Four more planned hydroelectric projects are reportedly in the review stage, according to a state government source.
Mizoram currently has no power projects. The four regional power plants in Tripura provides electricity to Mizoram, costing about Rs. 400 crore a year on the procurement of power from other states.

The department officials and engineers informed Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati about the proposed power projects on Monday, and asked Commissioner-and-Secretary H Lalengmawia and other officials and engineers, referring to his recent meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to discuss the proposed power projects with the Union Power Ministry to fine-tune the DPRs and to inform the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

The Governor also encouraged the P&E Department to investigate the possibility of utilizing the resources of the large PSUs to carry out some of the suggested projects.
