GMC Mayor announces 30 percent salary hike for employees

Guwahati: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) Mayor Mrigen Sarania announced an increase of 30 percent hike in the salary as well as Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) benefits for the employees and workers (regular and contractual) under GMC on the occasion of International Labour Day.

Following this, the Mayor inaugurated a set of Road Sweeping machines and six Back Hoe Loaders, which are set to play a crucial role in reining in air pollution in the city as well as maintaining cleanliness and hygiene. These were part of the Government of India’s flagship National Clean Air Programme for Guwahati City.

Speaking to Business Northeast , Mayor of Guwahati Municipal Corporation Mrigen Sarania said that there was no specific demand for increasing salary. The GMC has a strength of more than 1500 employees currently.

On being asked whether there is any chance of regularising the contractual workers in the near future , he replied that it will be based on performance and there will be tests if somebody is interested to work again.
