Guwahati: Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport has become the first airport in the northeastern region to launch Digi Yatra for hassle-free travel.

The Civil Aviation Department in association with the Adani Group has launched the Digi Yatra at the LGBI airport.

“Earlier, there were multiple formalities during security checks, but with Digi Yatra, passengers can upload their ID proofs and get hassle-free entry. They no longer need to stand in a long queue. Digi Yatra has already been implemented in major airports of India like New Delhi, Varanasi, Bengaluru, Vijayawada, Pune, Hyderabad and Kolkata. LGBI is the first airport in the northeast to launch this system,” said Chandramohan Patowary, Minister for Environment and Forests, Act East Policy Affairs & Welfare of Minorities Department, Govt of Assam.

Civil Aviation Secretary Rajeev Bansal said, “New airports are opening, new flights are coming up. Digi Yatra is a new concept in India, initiated by the Civil Aviation Department. In Digi Yatra, facial recognition technology is used, which is linked to Aadhaar. In three stages, it can be used while travelling from Guwahati airport. Through Digi Yatra, all the gates will open for you very easily without any problem.”

“The phased implementation and installation of the Digi Yatra infrastructure at airports will enhance the ease and efficiency of air travel. They have been doing a lot of development work, and in the coming days, many more such efforts will be seen in this sector,” he added.

LGBI Airport CAO Utpal Baruah told Business-Northeast, “We are very happy with this system because it is a new concept in the civil aviation sector. Passengers only have to download the Digi Yatra app and upload their photo, which is linked to Aadhaar. At present, only two airlines have onboarded into this system, that is Akasa Airlines and Indigo Airlines. By September 2023, all other airlines will be onboarded into the Digi Yatra App except for FlyBig Airlines.”
