Guwahati: The Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati recorded a footfall of nearly 28 lakh this winter, witnessing a sharp increase from the corresponding period last year.

The footfall rose to 27,74,779 from 19,96,567 in a year, showing that air travel is resurging after the pandemic period.
Out of the total, nearly 14 lakhs (13,51,086) were departure passengers and the remaining were arrival travellers. The number is 38% higher than last year’s.

The top three international destinations from Guwahati are Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru. Similarly, the two international destinations are Singapore and Paro.

The airport witnessed 23,558 movements of flights this winter season, which is 15% higher than the last year’s figure. A passenger-centric approach has led to this growth.

However, Guwahati Airport is hopeful of consistent growth in this summer schedule that is being started March 26. Air India starts operations from Guwahati Airport to Delhi on May 4. It will be operational on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday in a week. On the other hand, Bhutan Airlines will be operational from May 16.
