An amount of Rs 1,599,16,59,592 have been provided to women borrowers as incentives under the Assam Micro Finance Incentive and Relief Scheme.

This was informed in a written reply by Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog at the ongoing session of the Legislative Assembly on September 13.

The Minister said that the state government has decided to provide incentives and relief under the scheme by dividing the loanees in three categories.

Under the scheme as many as 8,72,740 borrowers have already been benefited.

Neog further said that the Assam government is now planning to provide relief to 15 lakh category-two and category-three loanees during the ongoing fiscal of 2022-23.

In 2021, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma rolled out an ambitious microfinance loan waiver scheme. It benefited around 24 lakh women across the state.
