Jio tops 4G download speed chart: TRAI

Guwahati: Reliance Jio continues to lead in the average 4G download speed chart published by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) for the month of April.

Jio achieved a 23.1 Mbps average download speed in the month of April, witnessing an improvement from 21.1 Mbps in March this year.

In the month of April, Vodafone, Idea, Airtel, and BSNL networks registered 17.7 Mbps, 14.1 Mbps, and 5.9 Mbps average download speeds, respectively.

Airtel registered a marginal improvement in average download speed from 13.7 Mbps in the month of March. The performance of both Vodafone and Idea dipped in April.

Vodafone, Idea topped the average 4G upload speed chart with 8.2 Mbps in April.

In the same month, Jio, Airtel, and BSNL registered 7.6 Mbps, 6.1 Mbps, and 5.0 Mbps average upload speeds, respectively.

The download speed helps consumers access content from the internet, while the upload speed helps them send or share pictures or videos with their contacts.

The average speed is computed by TRAI based on data it collects with help of its MySpeed application on a real-time basis.
