Manipur Government has decided to focus on entrepreneurship to ease unemployment.
Governor of Manipur and West Bengal, La Ganesan, stressed the need for innovation and a participatory approach in entrepreneurship development to ensure economic development while speaking at the Dynamic Manipur Inspiration Episode 18, held at the City Convention Centre on August 28.
The Governor pointed out that efforts are being made to develop entrepreneurial skills so that sufficient skilled manpower is available in the country to manage scarce resources by developing cutting-edge enterprises.
He said that the new generation of entrepreneurs needs technical, managerial, financial, and marketing skills to meet the challenge of the new world order and be able to compete. Addressing the issue of unemployment among the youths of the North Eastern states including Manipur, Ganesan said that the government is taking serious efforts to mitigate the unemployment problems of the region.
He added that in spite of many odds and limitations, few women entrepreneurs in the state have shown their hidden talents in the form of a perceptible scale of production of a few competitive items.
Every year Manipur wins the Outstanding Entrepreneur Award instituted by the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises.
"It is our responsibility to encourage and carry them forward in a new environment and policy support," he added.
The Governor also asked the Department of Commerce and Industries to prepare a roadmap for industrializing the state through a sound policy of structured, skill, and entrepreneurship development, particularly for women in modern Manipur.
MLA Sapam Nishikant Singh, who also attended the function, said women should be given preferences in all fields in society. "We should encourage our girl child in education and other fields to help them in setting their goals for a self-dependent life".
