Guwahati: An agreement was inked between the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) and Amazon Seller Services Private Limited (Amazon) for the online selling of self-help group items.

Giriraj Singh, Union Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj stated that the goal is to make Self Help Group women "Lakhpatis."

During the signing of the MoU, Union Minister Giriraj Singh emphasised the importance of translating the MoU between the MoRD and Amazon in order to increase sales on the platform and ensure that the largest number of women artisans become 'lakhpati'.

He also proposed that Amazon and MoRD identify the issues with current items, packaging, and branding. The Minister further stated that the MoU between the MoRD and Amazon is a first step that should be followed by continuous monitoring of the engagement to secure the outcomes envisioned in the MoU.

This collaboration would allow SHG entrepreneurs under NRLM to sell their items to buyers across India via the Amazon Saheli Storefront, allowing SHG women to earn a fair price for their diverse products.

Amazon and the Ministry of Rural Growth will collaborate to support the commercial and social development of women-led rural firms in specified States/UTs.

Amazon will give training and onboarding assistance to MoRD-appointed vendors who wish to market items from MoRD-affiliated Self Help Groups (SHGs) on Amazon. Furthermore, it will assist SHGs in marketing and promoting their items via the Saheli Storefront, social media, events, and onsite merchandising.
