NABARD sanctions Rs. 9,700 cr for Assam's infrastructural development in FY21-22

Guwahati: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has facilitated a sanction of Rs 9,700 crore for the state for various projects and activities, including Rs 7,600 crore for state government infrastructure projects, Rs 2,065 crore for various financial institutions, and so on, for the fiscal year 2021-22.

In addition, a grant of Rs 26.30 crore was made available for different development interventions such as the formation of farmer producers' organisations (FPOS), tribal development programmes, micro-credit innovation initiatives, and so on. "NABARD, the nation's biggest development finance institution established with a goal of rural prosperity via credit and related services, was in the forefront during the pandemic-affected years 2021-22 of providing timely and enough credit to the agriculture and rural development sector," said Baiju Kurup, Chief General Manager, NABARD, Assam Regional Office, in a release.

NABARD increased its activity, resulting in a 15% growth in its balance sheet to Rs 7.57 lakh crore during the fiscal year 2021-22. "Notable facilitations include NABARD Infrastructure Development Assistance to Assam Infrastructure Financing Authority, a Government of Assam institution, for the establishment of medical colleges, engineering colleges, model colleges, greenfield roads for improved connectivity, and so on.
