New 1000 Mega Watt Solar Project to come up in Assam's Dima Hasao

Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma announced to set up a 1000 Mega Watt Solar Power Project in the Dima Hasao District.

According to media reports, most of the power resource in Assam comes from the Central Grid and neighbouring states like Nagaland and Meghalaya. So, when this project will be completed it will add to the energy bank of the state and would go a long way in making the state self –sufficient in energy production.

The Assam government has already laid the foundation stone for two solar power projects, one each in Dima Hasao and Amguri in the Sivasagar district in March 2020.

Reports say that these two solar power projects when completed would churn out 140 MW of solar energy. This would go a long way in serving the 68 lakh families of the state. According to sources, these two projects would be completed by the end of 2023 and would go into operation by 2024.

Moreover, a skill development centre would also be set up in line with the project to impart skill development lessons to the people working on the project that would help them in running such a huge project.

CM Sarma formally inaugurated the Integrated Skill Development Centre in the Ardha area of Diyungbra under the Dima Hasao District.

Reports also say that the skill centre is built at a cost of Rs. 36.60 crores. It is being built under special financial package that was agreed upon as per the accord between the Government of India, the Government of Assam and both the factions of erstwhile militant group Dima Halim Daogah (DHD).

The Chief Minister said that under the abled leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has been making rapid strides on all fronts.

Speaking on the Indian economy having surpassed the British economy to become the fifth largest economy in the world, the Chief Minister said that the economic growth of the country is opening up numerous opportunities for those with requisite skills. There is great demand for skilled persons in the economy, and initiatives such as integrated skill development centres are aimed at ensuring the employable youths of Assam can reap the benefits the economy is offering, the Chief Minister added.
