New energy seen with SFURTI Mela for encouraging traditional products from NE

The Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) has sent members of 10 clusters to participate in the Scheme of Fund for Regeneration of Traditional Industries (SFURTI) Mela that is being held at the Dilli Haat in New Delhi.

The SFURTI mela, a National level exhibition of traditional products from SFURTI clusters is being organized for the first time, commemorating Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav from 1st to 15th October.

IIE is making immense effort to make the project a successful one. The institute informed Business Northeast, that the clusters have received good participation, with the earnings of each being more than Rs. 3 lakh

The Mela is organized by the Ministry of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) in collaboration with the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC).

The Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship, Guwahati entrusted as one the Nodal Agencies of the SFURTI, a central sector scheme of the Ministry of MSME Government of India has so far implemented 60 clusters in different districts of the Northeastern region, including other parts of India.

Under the revamped SFURTI scheme, since 2014, 433 clusters have been approved to benefit about 2.5 lakh artisans.

The project was started in 2014 but in 2016 it emerged in its revamped form. To date, the total money granted for the project is Rs. 12401.80 lakhs sanctioned.

These clusters are mainly engaged in the production of handloom, handicraft, bamboo, mask making, agro, and food processing products.

The clusters are selected as per the traditional skill available in that particular cluster like Terracotta in Dhubri.

Out of 60 clusters across, 18 clusters are in food and agro-processing. 12 clusters in handicrafts, 7 deals in the bamboo craft. 6 clusters in garment and apparel, 3 clusters in khadi products, 2 clusters in food and spice Processing, 1 in each in brass metal craft, honey and producing, and 5 other clusters sanctioned recently.

Out of the 60 clusters, Arunachal Pradesh has 1 cluster, Assam has 30 clusters, Bihar has 1 cluster, Madhya Pradesh has 1 cluster, Manipur has 11 clusters, Meghalaya has 6 clusters, Nagaland has 3 clusters, Odisha has 2 clusters, Tripura has 2 clusters, Uttarakhand has one cluster, West Bengal has 2 clusters.

Out of these, 19 clusters are functional where Common Facility Clusters (CFC) are constructed. Out of the 60 clusters, 9 have already received enquiries about export orders with international buyers.
