Special attention of the expo will be on strengthening the agri-based industry of Assam through industrial training and seminars
Guwahati: Coming December 23, dozens of entrepreneurs from the Northeast and beyond will descend on the Maniram Dewan Trade centre in Guwahati for the annual winter expo, which will culminate on January 2.
The Assam Trade Promotion Organisation (ATPO), which is organizing the event, has invited Assam's Agriculture Minister Atul Bora to grace as the chief guest. Ruhul Amin, the assistant high commissioner of Bangladesh, has also been extended an invitation. The winter expo in 2022, which emphasized bilateral trade between India and Bangladesh, sold goods amounting to Rs 3 crore.
Sunil Deka, the chairman of ATPO, informed Business North East that this year, Assam has already struck deals worth Rs 4,000 crore with foreign countries. "Of this, Rs 2,200 crores came from tea-related transactions and Rs 1,800 crores from other products like king chilly, joha rice, lemons, etc. Therefore, we have chosen to highlight agri-based industries at this year's expo," he said.
Sharing highlights of the upcoming expo, Deka said, "This year, we will be having two farmers' producers companies, entrepreneurs from Nalbari who produce stevia, and two tea entrepreneurs who will also participate. Around 200 medium and small enterprises will display their products at the event."
The state will be represented at 120 stalls. "Over 150 people wanted to open their stalls here. But, due to space constraints, we could accommodate only 120 of them," Deka said, adding that around 60–70 entrepreneurs, including around 20 from overseas, will also be a part of the event.
This year, with a focus on agriculture-based industries, the expo will conduct several training sessions and seminars for the benefit of attendees.
