ONGC, Indian Oil and Power Grid top profit-making PSUs in FY22: Report

New Delhi: ONGC, Indian Oil Corp, Power Grid, National Thermal Power Corporation, and SAIL have emerged as the top five performers in the country, with net profits increasing by 50.87 percent to Rs. 2.49 lakh crores during 2021-2022, according to a government survey.

In the previous fiscal year, the net profit of operating central public sector enterprises (CPSEs) was Rs 1.65 lakh crore.

According to the Public Enterprises Survey 2021-22, the net loss of loss-making CPSEs decreased by 37.82 percent to Rs 0.15 lakh crore in FY 2021-22 from Rs 0.23 lakh crore in FY 2020-21.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), Mahanagar Telecom Nigam Ltd (MTNL), Air India Assets Holding Ltd, Eastern Coalfields Ltd, and Alliance Air Aviation Ltd are among the major loss-making CPSEs.

According to the survey, the revenue increase in FY 2021-22 is due to improved performance in the petroleum (refinery and marketing), crude oil and transportation, and logistics segments.

Manufacturing, processing, and generation continue to have the largest share, followed by services and mining and exploration.

Petroleum (refinery and marketing), trading and marketing, and power generation contributed 69.08 percent of gross revenues in fiscal year 2021-22.

The net profit of business CPSEs was Rs 2.64 lakh crore in FY 2021-22, up 39.85 percent from Rs 1.89 lakh crore the previous fiscal.

GST, corporate tax, interest on central government loans, dividends, and other duties and taxes totaled Rs 5.07 lakh crore in FY 2021-22, a 2.14 percent increase from Rs 4.97 lakh crore in FY 2020-21.

Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd, Bharat Oman Refineries Ltd, and Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd were the top five CPSEs contributing to the central exchequer.

Furthermore, the total corporate social responsibility (CSR) expenditure of all CSR-eligible CPSEs (160) was Rs 4,600 crore in FY 2021-22, up 2.61 percent from Rs 4,483 crore in FY 21.

As per the survey, the top five CPSEs contributing the most to CSR were Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), National Thermal Power Corporation, Indian Oil Corporation, National Mineral Development Corporation, and Power Grid.
