Guwahati: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will pay the government Rs 30,307 crore as a dividend for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2019, down from the previous year's second-highest distribution of Rs 99,122 crore.

The board recommended a surplus transfer to the Central Government of Rs 30,307 crore for the fiscal year 2021-22, while keeping the Contingency Risk Buffer at 5.50 percent. The RBI stated in a statement.

The decision to pay the dividend was made at the 596th meeting of the RBI's Central Board of Directors, which was chaired by Governor Shaktikanta Das on Friday.

Last May, the RBI declared a dividend of Rs 99,122 crore for the nine-month period from July 2020 to March 2021). The dividend was given during that period since the RBI's fiscal year coincided with the fiscal year of the government. Previously, the RBI followed the July-June timeframe. The government expected to receive Rs 73,948 crore in dividend revenue from the Central Bank and public sector financial institutions in the current fiscal year. This is a 27% decrease from the Rs 1.01 lakh crore received in FY22.

The board also discussed the present economic environment, global and domestic concerns, and the impact of recent geopolitical developments at its meeting.
