Fly twice to Singapore from Guwahati with DrukAir

After a two-year break due to Covid-19 pandemic, the international flights operating from Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International airport (LGBIA) rescheduled services from Guwahati to Singapore on September 3.

This route will offer travelers nonstop flights from the North Eastern state of India to Singapore and back. "This route is expected to facilitate travel and trade between the two countries and will contribute toward strengthening social, cultural, and economic ties between Bhutan, India, and Singapore" an official from Guwahati International Airport sais.

From September 3, Drukair Flight KB 540 is being operated from Guwahati airport at 0910hrs every Saturday and will be arriving in Singapore at 1610hrs. Similarly, the flight will return from Singapore on Sunday departing at 1230hrs and arriving in Guwahati at 1430hrs.

15 people were on the September 3 flight including an infant.

Notably, Royal Bhutan Airline Druk Air is the connecting flight from Paro, Bhutan. At present, it is the only international carrier that operates flights to Guwahati, the ‘Gateway to the Northeast of India’.

DRUK AIR: Druk Air is the only leading airline of Bhutan connecting Bhutan to the world. It was founded in 1981 but commercially it started operating in 1983. Presently its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is Mr. Tandi Wangchuk. The first flight of Druk Air from Guwahati commenced in 2018. The flight connected from Guwahati to Paro via Singapore.

In 2017, under the Udaan Scheme 425 new routes started, one of which was the commencement of the Guwahati to Paro route. Bhutan’s Druk Air is the only international carrier which operates flights to Guwahati, the gateway to northeast India.

Presently the Assam Government is working towards five more international routes including neighbouring countries like Myanmar, Nepal and Bangladesh. There are only two international airports in North East India which serve all the eight states- Assam, Manipur, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.
