Rural Sikkim to boost internet connectivity in association with Reliance Jio

Gangtok: A tripartite agreement between the Rural Development department, IT department, and Reliance Jio was signed this Friday with regard to an initiative was taken by the state IT department to boost the internet network connectivity in Sikkim. 

Block and GPU levels were asked to cover in this agreement. For the initial phase, 16 blocks from the 134 locations will be covered and 118 GPUs will be connected according to the agreement in association with Reliance Jio. 

This connection will further improve the internet connectivity in rural areas. 

This agreement meeting was attended by the IT advisor Tenzing Lamtha, IT secretary Raj Yadav, Rural Development special secretary Sarika Pradhan, IT additional director S.T Wangdi and the area I/C of Reliance Jio Sikkim. 

The installation land is provided by the Rural Development Department, which is asked to be completed within a year. The IT advisor is very keen to complete the project at the earliest which can boost the improvement and quality of the internet in the rural region. 

The poor connectivity within the rural areas is observed due to the hilly terrains of Sikkim and has an adverse effect on students, who face tremendous hardships during the online classes. And considering this urgency, Sikkim Government took this initiative and has taken a step for speedy implementation of the project
