Prompt service will help residents as well as tourists

Guwahati: Taxi service in the city is increasing by the day with another new app by ASTC being introduced for drivers and customers. However, in the long run, there is a need for bettering the services that will help in tourism too.
The new service came as an answer to the problems faced in previous services like Uber and Ola, by both customers and drivers.
A number of taxi services are present in the city such as My Taxi and Smart Taxi. These have their advantages and disadvantages. The PeIndia taxi came with new hopes but it could not sustain for long. Megha Cab and Swiss Cab also faced extinction.
My Taxi has over 50 cars. Smart Taxi, which is a start-up, also claims that it has more than 50 vehicles. The an2 Cab service has a registration of above 4,000 drivers so far who runs across Guwahati. ASTC is still in the process of deciding on how many taxis will run in the city. Currently, it has more than 3,000 drivers registered with the app.
The services will really help residents as well as visitors.
The city is already filled with other services. A good taxi service is an asset to improve tourism potential of the state. Yet, these services are not present equally in all the places of Assam and the North East.
Many a time, customers faced problems like high prices, theft, burglary, etc. So, it is important to have good surveillance and there should be somebody that will be made accountable for all the misdeeds.
However, on-call taxis are not available in Guwahati as it is present in the metro cities. Moreover, most of the taxis are operated with a mobile application. That might discourage someone to call who are not advanced in technological insights.
ASTC has confirmed that their taxi can be called by phone call as well.
