Guwahati: The Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) is recruiting 20 female bus conductors. This move is seen as an attempt to provide employment opportunities for women while challenging traditional gender roles by breaking into the male-dominating profession.

ASTC is setting an example for other organizations in the region to promote gender equality and inclusivity by diversifying its workforce. The recruitment of female bus conductors not only empowers individual women economically but also contributes to a more inclusive and progressive society. Gender diversity and inclusiveness can create a more conducive environment for women’s participation in the workforce.

Ten of the women are actively serving whereas 10 others are undergoing training, media reported.
