CII's first Sikkim MSME conclave held in Gangtok

RBI urges joint action by government bodies, financial institutions, and industry leaders for MSME empowerment

GANGTOK: The 1st CII Sikkim MSME Conclave, organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Sikkim Chapter in collaboration with the Commerce and Industries Department of the state government on Wednesday brought together key stakeholders to discuss strategies for fostering growth in a move that could significantly bolster the MSME sector in the Himalayan state.

Kishore Pariyar, Regional Director (Sikkim) of the Reserve Bank of India, emphasized the need for a collaborative effort involving the Department of Commerce and Industries, Government of Sikkim, SIBDI, MSME DI, State Bank of India, and CII to empower MSMEs in the region. "Joint initiatives are needed to create a conducive environment for MSMEs to thrive", he stated.

Topden Zangpo, Joint Secretary of the MSME Department of Sikkim provided insights into various schemes for stakeholders involved in the sector. At the same time, Sudip Pradhan, the Independent Director of Numaligarh Refinery Limited, shed light on the various schemes initiated by Public Sector Enterprises (PSEs) to promote the sector in Northeast India. Atanu Bandopadhyay, regional manager of State Bank of India in Sikkim highlighted how the bank has been helping in the financing of businesses in the state. 

Zangpo and Bandopadhyay also urged active participation from local businesses and entrepreneurs to leverage the specialized SME branch to boost the sector in Sikkim. Pradhan also discussed effective ways for MSMEs to scale up their activities.

The conclave drew active participation from various sectors, including tourism, the local business community, entrepreneurs, government officials, startups, and Self-Help Groups (SHGs). The conclave witnessed a turnout of over 100 delegates that included several notable industry leaders.
