Guwahati: Union Minister for Commerce & Industry Piyush Goyal has called for branding for the industry to contribute equally to the branding of our high-quality domestic cotton.

It's time for India to adopt global norms in cotton productivity, Goyal said at an interactive meeting with cotton textile value chain stakeholders in New Delhi. However, he stated that in order to increase cotton yield in India and farmer incomes, all parties involved must exchange best practises.

Speaking at the event, Goyal stated that the government will match any contributions made by the private sector to further research on productivity, farmer education, and branding.

Goyal stated that the cotton value chain must be strengthened by the private sector acting in a mission mindset.

According to Goyal, cotton serves as a link between the agricultural and textile industries. Both domestically and internationally, a sizable portion of all textile and apparel goods are made from cotton. Market access is becoming more accessible thanks to FTAs, therefore we must work quickly to improve both productivity and quality.

Goyal, adds that we must regain our pre-eminence in the world's cotton market and that India views the textile industry as a crucial sector for the creation of an "Aatmanirbhar Bharat." He said that the "5F" vision of the PM, which stands for "Farm to Fibre; Fibre to Factory; Factory to Fashion; Fashion to Foreign," is being worked on at the Center.

Similar accords with the EU, UK, and Canada are being discussed. Agreements for duty-free entry of Textiles with Australia and the United Arab Emirates have given the trade a fresh push.

According to Goyal, it is crucial to raise knowledge about the proper seeds, encourage farmers to use cutting-edge technologies, and improve agricultural methods in order to maximize production and profit margins for our cotton producers.
