Assam-owned public sector organisation, NRL receives BEE CHT Award for Best Energy Efficiency Practices

At the Energy Efficiency Award celebration held in Noida on 15-06-22, Numaligarh Refinery Limited was honoured with a Certificate of Achievement and given for 'Best Energy Efficiency Practices by Refinery' for the PAT (Perform Achieve Trade) Cycle II (2016-19).

The award, jointly instituted by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) under the Ministry of Power (MOP) and the Centre for High Technology (CHT) under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, acknowledges Indian refineries for their accomplishments in the field of Energy Efficiency. Mr. Sunil Kumar, Joint Secretary Refineries MoPNG, Mr. Abhay Bhakre, Director General, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, in the presence of ED CHT Mr. Alok Sarma and Director -BEE Mr. Milind Deore, presented the award to the NRL team, which included Mr. Nikunja Borthakur, Sr.CGM (CA) and Ms. Geetali Kalita, CM(TS)-Energy.

One of the NAPCC's eight tasks (National Action Plan on Climate Change). The Indian government is NMEEEE (National Mission on Enhanced Energy Efficiency). PAT (Perform Achieve Trade) is a technique for improving energy efficiency and optimizing energy consumption in energy-intensive sectors.

According to the Energy Conservation Act, refineries have been included in PAT Cycle II (2016-2019), along with the other eight current energy-intensive enterprises. NRL exceeded the Specific Energy Consumption target, lowering PAT from MBN 71.39 in the baseline year (2014-15) to MBN 65.78 in FY 2018-19, compared to the MOP –BEE objective of 67.03.

Specific Energy Consumption (SEC) is the amount of energy used to refine one tonne of crude oil. SEC is critical since any energy saved leads to the manufacture of extra goods for refineries, reducing crude oil imports into the country while also lowering the carbon impact.
