Purabi Dairy gains international exposure in World Dairy Summit 2022.

The West Assam Milk Producers’ Co-operative Union Limited (WAMUL), the largest dairy co-operative brand in Assam popularly known by its brand name, Purabi Dairy, took part in the International Dairy Federation World Dairy Summit (IDF WDS) 2022.

The IDF World Dairy Summit is an annual meeting of the global dairy sector, bringing together approximately 1500 from all over the world. The event was organized at the India Expo Centre and Mart in Greater Noida from September 12-15.

Managing Director, WAMUL, Satyabrata Bose told Business Northeast that the experience of participating in the summit was wonderful. “Our organisation gained exposure in this process,” he said.

WAMUL represented itself under the banner of the National Co-operative Dairy Federation of India (NCDFI). During this Summit, the co-operative union displayed its milk and dairy products. Approved by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), it is one of the largest and most active dairy units in North East India.

Bose said that the people associated with dairy came under one platform and they have learnt new insights t the challenges this sector is facing.
"It was a wonderful platform that was organised in India after many years."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the International Dairy Federation World Dairy Summit (IDF WDS) 2022 on September 12. Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister expressed happiness as dignitaries from the world of dairy assembled in India. “The potential of the dairy sector not only gives impetus to the rural economy but is also a major source of livelihood for crores of people across the world,” he said.

Industry leaders, experts, farmers and policy planners attended under the theme “Dairy for Nutrition and Livelihood’.

The IDF World Dairy Summit provides a forum for industry experts to share knowledge and ideas on how the sector can contribute to nourishing the world with safe and sustainable dairying. Participants got an opportunity to acquire knowledge of the latest research findings and experiences relevant to the global dairy sector in the broadest sense.

The summit was attended by 1500 participants from 50 countries. The last such summit was held in India in 1974.

WAMUL came into existence in 1976 as a milk union of Milk Producers’ Co-operative of Nagaon, Morigaon, Goalpara, Nalbari and Kamrup districts of Assam. The Union was established under the premises of the Operation Flood Programme of the National Dairy Development Board for dairy development in Assam. Purabi claims to sell more than 60000 litres of milk per day and in festival times like Magh Bihu, the sales touch the 1 lakh mark.
