1. Frozen Planet – The first snow theme park in Northeast Region. Could you brief us on the story behind coming up with such an innovative space for the netizens?

Yes, Frozen Planet is NE India’s first-ever ‘snow’ theme park. The idea of opening a snow park struck my mind after visiting Snow World - a snow theme park situated in Phoenix Mall, Mumbai. I had a thrilling experience there. It was a great break from the hot & humid terrain of Mumbai city. People belonging to different age groups like youngsters, families with children and even senior aged people were enjoying the thrill of real snow within their own city. I had never experienced something as unique as it was before. With the advancement of technology, the possibilities to enhance human experiences are unbelievable. Thus, I researched and decided to open a snow park in Guwahati, Assam. While researching I found out about a few other snow parks situated around the country, mainly in the major metro and urban cities like Delhi, Pune, Chennai, Jaipur, etc., and present around the world in places like Dubai, China, etc. Guwahati is a hot and humid terrain and the majority of people had never experienced the feeling of real snow, snowfall and other snow-related concepts like ice skating, snow sledding, snow mountain climbing, etc here.  Life is demanding and the majority of the population cannot avail of the luxury to travel to snow-clad destinations like Kashmir, Tawang, Switzerland, etc to enjoy the unique feeling of snow or to beat the heat. Frozen Planet solves that dilemma of the entire northeast region by aiding people to enjoy the snow and other entertainment/recreational activities that a snow theme park offers in such close proximity. Therefore, people can save time, and money and enjoy the snow park facilities within a reasonable fare. I feel it’s really wonderful how one can step into a space that can totally transform their day.

2. Snow-themed Park is a very unique and new concept. How would you rate the thrill and excitement among the citizens?

As it is a unique concept patrons really enjoy their time at Frozen Planet. We have real snow, snowfall, ice skating, snow mountain climbing, and much more that delights all our patrons. A park is a great place for recreational activities for people belonging to different age groups. We are of proud to host patrons from all the seven Northeastern states, mainly Shillong, Dimapur, Imphal, etc. During the pre-pandemic period, we also had patrons from places like Delhi, Kolkata, Siliguri, and also foreign destinations like Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, and China as well. In today’s world, most people are glued to their phones and that’s their way of entertainment or recreation. A park-like Frozen Planet gives people the opportunity to have a fitter and more active form of recreation by providing them options to participate in various types of snow activities and also helps them have more human-to-human experiences. Patrons are thoroughly enjoying the freezing thrill of snow for the first time and that too within their own city. Frozen Planet is helping people create memories for a lifetime.

4. Over the course of time, how successful has been your business in holding a firm foothold in the industry?

Frozen Planet is the first-ever and only Snow theme park in the entire northeast of India and the ninth Snow park in the entire country. There is a clear distinction between theme parks and amusement parks and we belong to the former category.

          ⁃        a theme park is a defined, designed space whose design reflects a unifying theme, and our theme is based on a snow theme landscape. Hence we are the only theme park in the entire NE India as of now.

          ⁃        Further, we have the first and only indoor ice skating rink in the region and are among the 7th indoor ice skating rinks in India. Ice skating is a premium sport and form of recreation that we have made possible within the hot and humid terrain of Guwahati using world-class technology and a team of specialized experts from different parts of the country in this field of work.

          ⁃        We inaugurated Frozen Planet on 15th September 2019 and have received much love, appreciation, and support from people all over NE India and people from other places as well, as mentioned above.

          ⁃        We are a fairly new enterprise and are definitely making our mark steadily. Frozen Planet undoubtedly contributes in its own way to the concept of making Guwahati into a smart city with Snow Parks along with indoor ice skating rinks and enterprises that are majorly present in metro cities in India and in remarkable foreign countries. The utilization of world-class technology for our park definitely adds to the growth of the use of technology in the business sector in the state of Assam.

          ⁃        Despite the challenges faced due to the onslaught of the pandemic after a few months of our inauguration and the subsequent lockdowns that followed we can safely say that Frozen Planet is coming up trumps once again and making a firm foothold in the industry.

5. Pandemic was a difficult time for all the sectors. How did ‘Frozen Planet’ continue to sustain amid the pandemic. Post pandemic, how is the footfall range?

During the first few months after our inauguration in September 2019, we did really well and received a large number of patrons. However, the footfall was hit harshly after the outbreak of the CAA movement in December 2019 as the situation was volatile and one of unrest. However, after the situation settled, we started to pick up again, only to halt operations as the lockdown was announced as a result of the outbreak of the pandemic. The world collectively faced an extremely unprecedented time during that period. However, our park was hit for longer as neither is it a necessity-oriented business, nor were mass gatherings allowed for a significantly longer period.  Further, as our work requires the usage of a good amount of electricity we had to continue paying the fixed charges that added to our woes. However, now that the situation has normalized to a great extent and our business is growing again.

 6. What are technologies applied for the maintenance of the park?

We have utilized world class technology using machineries that are imported from reputed foreign brands. Further, we create real snow each day using those machines and snow guns. The machinery makes it possible for us to create real snowfall each day and even several times as well. Our team of experts from around the country has made it possible to create the marvel of snow in a hot and humid destination. We also have a team of specialized designers who help us design and create concepts that are essential for a theme park. Nitish Roy, an renowned Indian film, art, product, and costume designer in Hindi cinema and a Bengali Film Director, who has also worked with the likes of Shyam Benegal, , Rajkumar Santoshi, Mira Nair and Gurinder Chaddha to name a few besides that an internationally acclaimed architect who has created several film cities such as Ramoji Film City (Hyderabad) Innovative Film city (Bengaluru), and several theme parks, amusement parks, museum not only in India but also in countries like Singapore, etc, has been an instrumental part in the creation of Frozen Planet.

7. How is your park contributing or aiding to the economy of Northeast?

Frozen Planet contributes to the economy of the state by providing employment to the local youth. Further, we are a largely women driven organisation as the majority of our workforce is female.

Earlier people would travel to other places to experience snow and its related activities, however, Frozen Planet solves that problem of citizens and helps that capital return back to the state as well. Also, it lends to the tourism industry by gradually becoming a tourist hotspot and contributes to the economy in that aspect also.
