New Delhi: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has implemented a user-friendly facility to assist residents in updating their address in Aadhaar online with the consent of the Head of Family (HoF).

The HoF-based online address update in Aadhaar will be of great assistance to a resident's relative(s), such as children, spouse, parents, and others, who do not have supporting documents in their own name to update address in their Aadhaar.

It is possible to do so by submitting a Proof of Relationship document such as a Ration Card, Marksheet, Marriage Certificate, Passport, or other document that includes the names of both the applicant and the HOF as well as the relationship between them, as well as OTP-based authentication by the HOF.

In the event that a Proof of Relationship document is not available, UIDAI allows the resident to submit a self-declaration by the HOF in the format prescribed by UIDAI.

With people moving cities and towns across the country for a variety of reasons, such a facility will benefit millions of people. This option would be in addition to the existing address update option, which allows users to use any valid Proof of Address document prescribed by UIDAI. Any resident over the age of 18 can be a HOF for this purpose, and through this process, he or she can share his or her address with relatives.

A resident can select this option when seeking to update their address online through the 'My Aadhaar' portal (https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in).

Following successful validation of the HOF's Aadhaar number, the resident must upload the Proof of Relationship document.

The resident must pay a fee of Rs. 50/- for the service. After successful payment, the resident would be given a service request number (SRN), and an SMS about the address request would be sent to the HOF. The HOF must approve the request and provide consent by logging into the My Aadhaar portal within 30 days of receiving the notification, after which the request will be processed.
