Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh cabinet has finalised an action plan to maximise the state's hydropower potential and boost the nation's energy industry, an official statement said on Wednesday.

The council of ministers decided on Tuesday during the first cabinet meeting of the year, presided over by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, to transfer some important stalled projects that were being carried out by independent power producers (IPPs) to central public sector undertakings (CPSUs) for development.

"To start development on 13 priority projects with a combined capacity of 12,343 MW, an action plan has been developed. 1.5 lakh crore would be invested as a result. It will bring in about Rs 2,000 crore in revenue for the state and roughly Rs 350 crore per year for neighbourhood development", the official statement said.

The cabinet also noted that Arunachal Pradesh's capabilities for producing hydropower will considerably help India's aim to raising its non-fossil energy capacity to 500 GW. The statement read: "Hydropower is a significant renewable energy source, and if exploited, it would bring in all-round socio-economic growth through substantial investment in infrastructure."

The cabinet decided to transfer ownership of five abandoned power projects to the Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (SJVNL) for development. The projects include Naying (1000 MW), Hirong (500 MW), Emini (500 MW), Amulin (420 MW), and Minundon (400 MW) from two CPSUS.

According to the announcement, these projects will provide 2,880 MW of green electricity and represent "an investment of Rs 40,000 crore in the next five to seven years" for the state.

The projects will also generate about Rs 500 crore in annual revenue and Rs 100 crore for neighbourhood development, according to the statement.

The cabinet also authorised a "indicative procedure for transferring the delayed hydropower projects from the IPPs to CPSUs in order to release the potential," it stated.
