Morigaon: Assam's Agriculture Minister Atul Bora visited Morigaon district to assess the flood situation and provide relief to flood victims. He reviewed the situation with the District Commissioner and other officials, and directed the Commissioner to follow the Chief Minister's directives to deal with the floods in the district.
Bora emphasized the importance of providing timely assistance to flood victims before August and urged all concerned departments to remain vigilant, according to an official release. He also reviewed the damage to farmland, animal feed supply, and veterinary treatment.
The minister also visited Rathkhola in Bardubatop, which was severely affected by the floods and interacted with flood victims. He discussed relief, drinking water, sanitation, medical treatment, livestock medicines, vaccination, and other necessary assistance. Bora assured flood victims that the government would provide all necessary assistance.
The floods have inundated 194 villages in Bhuragaon, Laharighat, and Mayang revenue circles in the district, affecting over 55,000 people and 66,000 livestock in the three revenue circles, the state government has said. About 13,000 hectares of agricultural land have been inundated.
Meanwhile,12 relief centers have been set up in the Bhuragaon revenue circle while two more have been set up in the Laharighat revenue circle. Rescue operations are ongoing, with 37 boats used and seven medical teams on duty.
