Assam to develop new satellite city on a 1,000 acres land

Guwahati: Assam government is  planning to develop a new satellite city on a 1,000 acre plot of land close to Guwahati.

State Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Ashok Singhal's staff released a press release outlining the idea.

Government officials have designated the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) as the organisation in charge of determining if the planned project is feasible.

The GMDA has hired an organisation chosen through a bid procedure as a consultant. It is a company called M/s Surbana Jurong Infrastructures Pvt. Ltd. that is a part of the Singaporean government.

The organisation will draught the master plans and development plans for the prospective satellite city, the document said.

Over a space of 1000 acres, the projected Amrit-GIG business metropolis would be meticulously built. The plan aims to encompass "world-class infrastructure for the future generation to adapt to the changing" as well as "new-age" residential and social infrastructure.

Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for the Performance Based Challenge Fund (Performance Based Challenge Fund), managed by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs of the Government of India, have already been issued in response to the 15th Finance Commission's recommendations to establish eight new cities across the nation.

According to the statement, the state government's Department of Housing and Urban Affairs is also taking part in this central tender in order to obtain the 500 crore rupee central fund.
